Hey there, business bestie! 🎉 Welcome back to another episode of the Waves of Impact Podcast, where we dive deep into building a business and life you love. I’m your host, Jessie Richards, and today’s topic is one I’m especially passionate about: how to build a strong personal brand that attracts your dream clients and grows your business.
Let me ask you something — have you ever looked at someone else’s brand and thought, “Wow, how do they make it look so stinkin’ effortless?” Trust me, you’re not alone! But here’s the thing: building a personal brand isn’t about perfection or overnight success. It’s about showing up consistently, being authentically YOU, and creating a connection with your audience.
Well you’re in luck because today I’m breaking down 6 actionable steps to help you define your brand, connect with your dream clients, and turn your personal brand into a powerful tool for growth.

Step 1: Build a Strong Personal Brand by Defining Your Identity
Your personal brand isn’t just a logo or pretty colors — it’s how people feel when they interact with you and your business. It’s the vibe, the trust, and the connection that makes them say, “I want to work with HER.”
When I started my business, I thought I had my brand figured out. But when I asked people what they thought I stood for, their answers were all over the place. That’s when I realized I wasn’t clearly communicating who I was, what I stood for, and how I could help.
Take some time to reflect on your brand. What do you want people to feel when they think of you? What’s your big “why”? Write down three things: what you want your audience to feel, who you’re here to serve, and what makes you different.
Step 2: Get To Know Your People
When learning how to build a strong personal brand, it’s important to remember that your brand isn’t for everyone — and that’s a GOOD thing. The clearer you are about your ideal client, the easier it is to attract the right people and create offers that resonate.
For me, this meant focusing on content creators and course builders who were ready to elevate their branding. Once I got specific, I started getting inquiries from people I was excited to work with.
Ask yourself: If you could design your dream client, what would they be like? What’s keeping them up at night, and how can you help them?
Step 3: Pick Platforms You Can Show Up On Consistently
Here’s the truth: trying to show up everywhere is a fast track to burnout. A key step in building a strong personal brand is choosing 1–2 platforms where you enjoy showing up and where your dream clients are already hanging out.
For me, that’s Instagram and Pinterest. By focusing my energy on these platforms, I’ve been able to grow my engagement without feeling overwhelmed. Where do you want to spend your time? Pick your platforms and commit to showing up consistently for the next 90 days.
Step 4: Build Your Content Strategy
Your content is your brand’s heartbeat. It’s how your audience gets to know, like, and trust you. Start by choosing 3–5 content themes that align with your brand. For example, I focus on branding tips, website strategies, and relatable entrepreneurship stories.
Think of your content as a conversation with your dream client. What advice or stories would you share if you were sitting down for coffee? Use that as inspiration to plan your content.
Step 5: Create a Cohesive Visual Brand
Let’s talk visuals! Your colors, fonts, and imagery should work together to create a consistent look that reflects your brand’s personality.
You don’t need to overcomplicate this. Stick to 2–3 main colors, 1 call-to-action color, and 2 fonts. Consistency is key! Take a look at your Instagram or website and ask yourself: Does everything feel cohesive? If not, pick one thing to tweak this week.
Step 6: Connect and Engage
At its core, your personal brand is all about connection. Some of my most loyal clients have come from simple conversations in my DMs. Take a few minutes each day to reply to comments, send a quick message, or share something personal.
Those small moments build trust and loyalty, and they remind your audience that there’s a real person behind the brand.
Conclusion:
There you have it, business bestie—six steps to building a strong personal brand that attracts and converts. Learning how to build a strong personal brand is a process, but every small step you take brings you closer to the business and life you’ve been dreaming of.
