How to Pivot Your Business for Success

Hey there, business bestie! Welcome to my very first blog post on the Waves of Impact Podcast, where we ride the waves of entrepreneurship together. Let me be super real with you for a second… I’ve been wanting to start this podcast for over a year, where I’d share how I have successfully been able to pivot my business as a mompreneur from freelancing to running a profitable online business. But dang it, I let my excuses stop me. I kept telling myself I’d launch it when things slowed down or when I had a better story to tell.

Today, I want to share my personal story so you can hear the story behind it all.

If you’ve ever felt like life got in the way of your business dreams or you’ve hit a rough patch, trust me, I’ve been there too. This post is about how I navigated those moments and found my way back to success. My hope is that it’ll inspire you to push through your own challenges and find your path to profits.

How I Pivoted My Business After Burnout

Let’s take it back to 2015. I didn’t set out to become a business owner. In fact, my entrepreneurial journey started with my desire to stay home with my son, Colin. Shortly after his birth, Colin was diagnosed with Noonan Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that meant we had a calendar packed with doctors’ appointments — cardiology, urology, ophthalmology, you name it.

I had to make a tough decision. I resigned from my corporate job to be there for Colin, but I also needed to contribute financially to our family. With my passion for creative design, I learned Photoshop and Premiere Pro in high school, not knowing these skills would help me pivot my freelance business into a full-time profitable online business years later. The voice in my head — thanks to my dad’s old-school thinking — kept telling me that design wouldn’t pay the bills, but I was determined to make it work.

Chasing A Dream: My Early Hustle and Struggles

I dove into freelance work, juggling early mornings, nap times, and late nights to design online branding and websites for startups. It was grueling, but I started to see results. The problem? I didn’t know why I was getting clients or how to consistently attract them. My business felt like I was just throwing darts in the dark and hoping they’d stick.

That’s when I realized: I needed to truly understand online branding and marketing. I didn’t want to just hustle my way through it; I wanted to own it. I became obsessed with learning about branding, buyer psychology, and everything in between. This dedication paid off when I started attracting 6- and 7-figure brands, helping them 10x their recognition and triple their revenue.

The Plot Twist: Burnout and a Hard Pivot

By 2021, things seemed to be on the up-and-up. I was a successful #boymom of four, and our household income had reached six figures. But here’s the catch: I was working 50+ hours a week, and what started as freelancing turned into a high-pressure J.O.B. disguised as entrepreneurship.

I was deeply involved in growing someone else’s business—handling everything from brand design to YouTube editing to podcast production. At first, I loved it, but over time, the environment turned toxic. Every week, I’d find myself in tears, overwhelmed and questioning how I let things spiral into burnout.

And then, in early 2022, we experienced heartbreaking loss. My in-laws passed away just 18 days apart, and it was a wake-up call that life is far too short to be stuck in a place that drains your soul.

My New Mission: Be the Energy You Want to Attract

Walking away from that toxic job felt like a massive pivot, but it was necessary. I gave myself time to heal and got back to what I love: online marketing, creative design, and helping others build businesses on their own terms.

My new mission is simple: Be the energy you want to attract. Surround yourself with growth-minded people, put yourself out there, and create the life you deserve. It’s not always easy, but I’ve learned that resistance—whether in life or business—is often a sign that it’s time to make a change.

My Takeaway for You: Embrace the Pivot

If there’s one thing I hope you take from my story, it’s this: It’s okay to fall down, pivot, or pause. You can always start again. Listen to those moments of resistance—they are nudging you to evolve. And when you do decide to pivot, do it confidently, knowing that you are creating the space for something better.

Final Thoughts: Just Do the Dang Thing!

The Waves of Impact Podcast has been on my to-do list for over a year. I kept telling myself I’d launch it when things slowed down or when I had a better story to tell. But what I’ve learned is that waiting for “perfect” is just another way of letting fear win. So, I’m here, recording my first episode and encouraging you to do that thing you’ve been putting off.
