I didn’t always know how to build a brand people trust.
Like a lot of online entrepreneurs, I started by focusing on the “pretty” stuff — logos, colors, Canva graphics… you know the vibe.
But pretty doesn’t pay the bills.
If you’re stuck wondering why your audience isn’t growing, why people aren’t buying, or why your brand still feels kind of all over the place — this post is your wake-up call (and your roadmap).
Because friend, there’s a difference between having a brand and building a brand people trust.
Let’s talk about it.

Mistake #1: Thinking Branding = a Cute Logo
Been there. Designed that.
When I launched my first website, I was so focused on the visuals that I completely skipped the strategy — no clear message, no positioning, no real reason for people to care.
It wasn’t until I nailed my message (what I offer, who it’s for, and why it matters) that things started to click.
My Key Takeaway from this: A beautiful brand won’t convert if your messaging is confusing. Yes, a professionally designed brand gets people to build trust with you. Yes, having consistent colors and fonts is important. And ALSO…
You must ask yourself: Would your dream client land on your website or Instagram bio and know exactly what you do and how you can help them?
If the answer is “maybe” or “not really”… take a minute, grab a pen and paper and write a one-liner that clearly communicates:
- What you offer
- Who it’s for
- Why it matters
- And why they should care
Once you have this one-liner written down, post it everywhere! On your website, in your Instagram bio, in your pinned post, EVERYWHERE!
Mistake #2: Skipping the Visual Audit
Here’s the hard truth: people do judge a book by its cover. And if your visuals don’t match the value of what you’re offering, there’s going to be resistance.
Your colors, fonts, and photos either say “you can trust me” — or they quietly scream “this is DIY.”
My Key Takeaway from this: Your visuals should back up your value.
A previous client told me she knew she wanted to work with me before she even saw my services page because my brand just felt right. That’s the power of aligned design.
To create this magnetic pull within your own brand, take an audit. Are your visuals communicating the same level of professionalism as your offers? Or… is there a disconnect?
If there is a gap, start with the basics: choose a consistent color palette, no more than 2 fonts, and a photo style that matches the vibe you want to create. Simplify until it’s cohesive.
Mistake #3: Not Owning My Positioning
I used to think I had to be everything to everyone. Literally the laundry list of services I used to offer is laughable. I didn’t want to exclude anyone.
But here’s what I learned: if you’re trying to speak to everyone, you end up resonating with no one. And you are super tired at the end of the day.
For too long, I tried to serve everyone — and I ended up attracting no one.
Positioning is your power move. It’s about being bold enough to say:
“Here’s who I help. Here’s the transformation I provide. And here’s why I’m the one to help you.”
When you’re clear on what you’re really good at and who you’re here to help, you start showing up differently. You’re no longer trying to please everyone or mimic what everyone else is doing.
Instead, you start to build a brand that stands in its power. One that turns heads. One that draws in the right people — your ideal buyers — and repels the ones that aren’t a good fit.
So what do you want to be known for? Who is the absolute dream person you want to attract? And just as important — who is not a great fit for your offer?
The moment you stop trying to blend in, your brand becomes magnetic. It repels the wrong people and attracts the right ones effortlessly.
